Our focus areas follow the conflicts where civilian stories are most at risk of being forgotten or never told at all.
These are the places and people we refuse to scroll past.
Ukraine–Russia
Russia's full-scale invasion, launched in February 2022, has killed over 16,000 verified civilians and forced more than 8 million Ukrainians from their homes, the largest forced displacement in Europe since World War II. A war of trenches and drones, of energy blackmail and information warfare, fought as much in European parliaments as on the frontline.
Sudan
Since April 2023, two rival military factions turned their weapons on each other and on the civilian population caught between them. Over 12 million people have been forced to flee. With death toll estimates ranging from 150,000 to 400,000, most of them civilians. It is unfolding with almost no cameras present.
Israel–Palestine
Since October 2023, over 75,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza. It is one of the most documented and most contested conflicts of our time and one most people encounter only through polarised headlines.
Worldwide Displacement
Displacement is the thread that runs through every conflict we cover. At the end of 2024, 123.2 million people were forcibly displaced worldwide, a number so large it becomes abstract the moment it's spoken aloud.
Uyghurs in China
An ongoing campaign of mass detention and cultural erasure. Estimates suggest between 1 and 1.8 million Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities have been detained in Xinjiang's internment camps since 2017. It continues to be one of the least visible human rights crises of our time.
Turkey–Cyprus
Nicosia has been divided since 1974, the last divided capital in Europe, its Green Line still patrolled by UN peacekeepers today. Proof that a war doesn't need to be active on the news to still be shaping daily life.
